Basic Travel and Tourist Visa Requirements

Visas for Tanzania may be received on arrival however the following requirements are essential for all travelers.

• A completely filled and signed visa application form.
• A passport with validity for six months or more.
• An envelope with the return address stated for passport return.
• Flight schedules, itineraries and a receipt or letter from your tour operation service.
• Parental approval (for those below legal age wishing to travel)
• Visa Fees (details available on the embassy visa page).

Other Tourist Visa Essentials

• You must provide two up to date passport sized photos for visa application.
• Visa fees are not accepted via check or hard cash. Accepted means of payment include credit card (with a $5 surcharge), money orders and cashier’s checks may be used for payment.
• American Express cards are NOT accepted.

Additional Visa Information

• Processing takes at least ten working days (not counting Saturdays and Sundays)
• Fast track processing can be requested for an additional USD 20. This is done in three working days.
• Immediate and next day processing is also available for an additional USD 100 and USD 50 respectively.
• If your visa expires before you visit, reapplication is necessary.
• Your immigration officer might establish the length of your stay upon entry or during process.

Travel Insurance Pointers

• Applying for travel insurance prior to travelling to Tanzania is highly recommended.
• Certain recommended coverage options include those for loss of items, theft and health or medical complications.
• There are many policies available. Do your due diligence to see which suits you best.
• Make sure you go over your insurance contracts thoroughly. Some do not offer coverage for tourist activities such as scuba diving, classing them as dangerous.
• Have your documentation ready as most policies are paid for and received on the spot.
• Look into policies offering emergency flights home if needed.
