MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK

Mikumi National Park has been around for over three decades and stands on an area of over three thousand square kilometers in the Morogoro region of Tanzania. Intersected by the A-Z highway located in Morogoro, Tanzania this park is known as the countries fourth largest natural reserve space. The closest developed city to the parks location is Dar es Salaam.

WHAT MAKES MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK SPECIAL

The first thing that makes Mikumi National Park so special is the fact that it shares borders with the Udzungwa as well as the Uluguru mountains. Apart from this, it also shares its southern border with a reserve known as the Selous Game Reserve. The parks unique geography results in an exquisite eco-system native to this specific region as animals tend to migrate between Mikumi National park and the Selous Game Reserve seasonally.

ANIMAL LIFE IN MIKUMI

Mikumi National Park is known for its diverse population of uncommon wild beasts and animals. These include different species of antelope including the rare eland and the unusual Lichtenstein’s hartebeest among others. Other animals that you are likely to spot on a visit to the park include giraffes, buffalos, baboons, elephants and the rather fascinating tree climbing lions.

If you travel closer to the riverbanks however, chances are, you will also spot hippos and crocodiles in abundance. Apart from this, the park is home to an excess of four hundred different species of birds!

It is said that the visiting Mikumi National Park between the months of June and October is ideal as this is the dry season.
