LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Lake Manyara National Park is one of the busier parks of Tanzania. Because it is so easy to access, it’s considered a hotspot for tourists all year around. To get a genuine outdoor experience from the Lake Manyara National Park, it’s best to visit during the afternoons; it’s even better to spend a couple of nights in the park to get the most out of your visit.

Safaris to Lake Manyara National Park

Many tourists make the mistake of undermining all that Manyara National Park has to offer. They only visit it as a part of a half-day safari as opposed to actually spending sufficient time in it to experience everything the park offers.

For a true wildlife experience of the Lake Manyara National Park, tour guide advise visitors to stay in the park as part of a permanent camp or mobile camp.

Flora & Fauna

Compared to other parks in Africa, Lake Manyara National Park is fairly small. The park covers an area of 3330 km² and more than half of it is underwater. But despite its size, the park is rich with flora and fauna. It’s alive with a bustling wildlife population.

Animals

On a typical Lake Manyara game, you’ll see various wild animals including giraffes, wildebeests, buffalos, zebras, impalas, waterbucks, warthogs and of course, the best of African elephants! If you head up the slopes, you may even spot the klipspringer and Kirk’s dik-dik.

Visitors that are really lucky will find themselves in the presence of Lake Manyara‘s greatest beasts—the lions and leopards.

Other than the big cats, visitors can be expected to be greeted by hundreds of Lake Manyara’s famous baboons.

Birds

Lake Manyara has an exceptional variety of birds. The center of the lake is often occupied with flocks of pelicans and pink flamingos. The floodplains are home to everything from stilts, egrets, spoonbills, stalks and waders.

Because there is so much water around in the area, the woodlands are also occupied with animals such as crowned eagles, crested guinea fowls, silvery-cheeked hornbills and more!

Vegetation

Lake Manyara National Park has a shallow lake which widens and shrinks depending on the season. Next to the lake are wide floodplains that hold acacia woodlands. Further down the escarpments, you’ll find evergreen forests that are nourished by the groundwater springs located on the base.

If you’re looking to come down to beautiful Tanzania sometime, you’ll have to check out one of its most popular tourist destinations.

Compared to some of the other game reserves and national parks in the country, Lake Manyara is much easier to access and offers cheaper tours.
