The Serengeti National Park is one of Tanzania’s most amazing wildernesses. Every year the park allures thousands of tourists from all over the world. It offers unforgettable safari experiences with endless savannah plains, dense forests and is packed with diverse wildlife.

The park is best known for its wildebeest migration and large predators that include cheetahs, leopards, lions, and hyenas—all of which you’re sure to see during your safaris in the Serengeti.

The wildebeest migration is the Serengeti’s migration where 2 million animals set out on a journey from one end of the Serengeti all the way to Masai Mara, Kenya. A few months later, they all make their way back to the Serengeti.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT

A Guide to Visiting the Serengeti National Park in 2020 2

The get the most out of your trip to the Serengeti, you should visit it during the Great Migration, which happens between December to March and then again during July and August.

Tourists that visit the Serengeti during this time will get to see 1.7 million wildebeest walk across the Serengeti alongside other gorgeous animals including gazelles and zebras. Visitors can also make their way to the park in February and hop on to a hot air balloon ride to witness the wildebeest calving season during which 8,000 wildebeest calves are born.

After the calving season is over, wildebeest make their way across the Grumeti and Mara Rivers.

THE WEATHER

The weather in the Serengeti doesn’t change much during the year. In its coldest months, the weather can drop to 15⁰C. In the summer, the temperatures can go to 27⁰C.

The dry season (between June to October) offers ideal weather conditions with its sunny mornings and blue skies. It’s also the best time to go searching for the Big Five and rest on the powdery beaches of Zanzibar.

The rainy season in the Serengeti doesn’t last very long. It usually happens in November and December. Visitors can tour under cloudy skies with occasional showers in the day. There may be some thunderstorms but nothing too harsh.
