A hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti is something you’re never going to forget. It’s your chance to view the fascinating wildlife of the Serengeti from the clouds.
There are 3 sites in the park from where you can hop onto a balloon and float into the sky to take in the breathtaking views of Serengeti Park Hot Air Balloon Safaris and National Park.
CENTRAL SERENGETI
When you’re hovering above Central Serengeti, you’ll be able to catch its bustling wildlife in the Seronera River Valley, where they gather around its permanent sources of water. The annual Great Migration makes its way through Central Serengeti between May and June. During these months you’ll be able to see Nile crocodiles thousands of wildebeest and plenty of other animals that make their way through the park every year.
The wildebeests begin gathering in the south of the Serengeti plains in December. Calving season usually starts in February—more than 8,000 newborn wildebeest join the herds at this time! This goes on for about 3 weeks and offers unbelievable sights for wildlife lovers. There’s no better time to see these amazing animals in their natural habitat!
Serengeti National Park is particularly nice to view from a hot air balloon ride because of close you can get to the animals. With so much wildlife to see, it becomes difficult to view all that the huge park has to offer by foot; a hot air balloon ride is a lot more convenient.
You can get aerially close to the herds without disturbing them.
WHAT’S THE BEST TIME TO GO?
The best time to go on a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti is early morning. Bear in mind that these rides are incredibly popular amongst tourists so you’ll need to book way ahead of time due to limited availability.
WHO CAN GO?
Children have to be at least 7 year old to go on the hot air balloon rides for safety reasons. Also, hot air balloon rides aren’t suitable for people that are on the heavier side because weight is a serious safety concern. People that weigh above 265 pounds may be asked to reserve 2 seats in the basket.
Each hot air balloon basket can carry around 16 people and takes them on an hour-long tour. Passengers are accompanied by an experienced pilot and several staff members.
Every hot air balloon ride above the Serengeti is unique and allows you to enjoy panoramic views of the one the mesmerizing places on the planet!
